MANIAC Magazine had the chance to shoot Dancing with the Stars Joanna Krupa.  The shoot and interview were shot at a hot spot in Miami Beach, Florida. She was one of the best models to ever work because despite all the fame, she is so down to earth.  When we asked her what she thought of the modeling business she said, “It drives me crazy when I see these poor stick-figure 16-year-olds with no meat on their bones walking down the runway for the biggest designers.”  It was also very evident that Joanna has a huge heart because her mission statement is “To help those who depend on us most: children and animals.”  She supports the Human Society of America and PETA.

But back to the shoot, which almost didn’t happen.  The stylist was canned on the spot, new clothes were pulled, 30 different hotels were scouted up and down ocean drive…  Everything literally came together last minute the second joanna walked in and everything was perfect!  We are rooting for our maniac girl Joanna Krupa who works perfectly under pressure.

Back To School Blues.

It seems like everyone has headed back to school. Long boring classes, tedious papers, living in small dorms and eating the same cafeteria food everyday seems to get a lot of students down. But don’t worry cause being a student has its perks to! Many of the students in the Pittsburgh area enjoy hanging out in places such as South Side, Station Square, and Oakland. There are tons of things for students to do in these areas.

SOUTH SIDE:

South Side has everything a student could ever wish for.  A major part of South Side is the South Side Works; it contains fabulous stores such as Forever XXI, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. Along with that there is also a cinema, which features specials for students on Tuesday and Thursday for only $6. The South Side has so many places to eat whether you are interested in a quick meal from Primanti Brothers or a nice fancy sit down at the Cheesecake Factory South Side has a spot for you. Students tend to favor the famous FAT HEADS, which has a special wing night once a week. The Milkshake Factory and Rita’s are two cool spots you and your friends can go to grab a little snack. Did we mention South Side is the place to be for nightlife? There are so many bars and clubs to choose from each individual one having their own daily specials (college kids know specials generally go from 10pm-12pm)

OAKLAND:

Oakland is a great spot to visit during the day there are several different museums generally offered for free to most college students. There are also other fun things to see in Oakland such as Phipps Conservatory, which helps you, escape the city for a while in its beautiful gardens.  At night it’s a totally different story all of the students can generally be found stumbling up and down Forbes Avenue making their way to the next frat house party. All of the students in the area enjoy grabbing a late night bite from The Original Hot Dog Stand, also known as The “O” for short, they make delicious fries for a great college budget price.

STATION SQUARE:

Station Square has a cute little strip mall of shops and boutiques where you can find all sorts of things. It also has some really great restaurants such as The Hard Rock Cafe, Crab Shack, and Bucca Di Beppo. Station Square is a little pricier for students so make sure you take your visiting parents there for a meal… on them of course. The Grand Concourse is located inside of the old train station and has a brunch buffet every Sunday that will blow you away. As for nightlife if you enjoy dancing then Station Square is right for you all the clubs are found here from Matrix to Bar Room to Saddle Ridge.

Hopefully all of these ideas will drag students out of the back to school blues and into some fun new inexpensive college hot spots.
